Since I keep a locked journal, I know it can be hard to know anything about me and what I'd like, which, while it doesn't explicitly need to be written to, it can often give you a start, and I know I'm always happiest to write something I really feel will resonate with and be loved by the recipient. So here is my medium-length letter.
My favourite genres of fic are gen, femslash, and unusual/rare het. That said, I'm open to everything except incest in any form, as far as that goes, and still have lots of love for good boyslash.
My squicks are incest, non-con and rape (anything where consent gets dubious, basically, and I'd be happiest if you stayed away from that), and really most kinky stuff (including BDSM). I'm kinda vanilla.
My dislikes or unpreferences (ain't gonna squick me, but not generally my cup of tea and it would be awesome if you avoided them) are hurt/comfort (it just totally doesn't work for me), excessive angst, anything with character-bashing (unless it's canonical, like everyone beating on Hank all the time), woobified characters, overly stereotypical gender roles (especially the idea of needing a top/bottom or stronger/weaker party in a relationship when it's two men), first-person and second-person narrative, and disregard for canon (though I like AUs and extrapolations).
My likes are artsy fic (substitute 'pretentious' if you like, but anything interestingly structured, post-modern, meta, etc. is my kink, really), nonlinear storytelling, strong female characters, neat little tie-ins to canon, present tense fic, humour, adventure, interesting AUs (I have a huge weakness for really good high school AUs, for example, see my
schoolforgirls comm to see the extent of it), and stories that make me think. I also prefer a suggestive R to an NC-17 rating. Also, I usually write short fic and have a strong appreciation for the genre, so I'm as happy with ten drabbles to meet 1000 words as I am with a mini-novella.For Worrals: HOLY CRAP, WORRALS FIC. Er, yeah, the only Worrals fic I know of is one I wrote that I never posted outside a lock and one
potatofiend wrote, so, any fic for this fandom would be love. My request was probably everything important; I love the adventure, I love the aeroplanes, I love the war stories, I love Bill and I love Frecks and I love Worrals herself more than anything in the world, almost. I'd be totally excited by ship fic and any combination of the characters including OT3s except Frecks/Bill (and yet, that could work!) I just want to see them treated nice and getting more adventure than 12 books could hold. Also, I adore W.E. Johns' style, so if you feel like attempting the cheese, I'd be more than happy to read it.For Corner Gas: basically I just want fic! I love every character, even the minor ones like Fitzy or Paul the bartender (who I miss!) The only thing I really want (and thus put in the character list) is Hank to be a major part of the story, as he's my absolute favourite x one million. I'm really open to anything else here though - wacky ensemble humour piece in the style of the show? Moody character study? Hank/anybody/everybody? Whatever you like, really. (Though as I mentioned, Hank/Wanda would be...there are no words for the awesomeness, really. And please, no incest).
For A Long Way Down: I thought the voices were so clear and true in this book; it took me a decent number of pages to really realize I liked them, but then they just clicked. I'd love anything that explored those voices more, the secrets and the rationalizations; and in particular for Martin and Jess, who were sort of trainwreck-style fascinating, and I'd really like to see it go somewhere, for good or for bad (but hopefully with some good first, at least).
In case you want to see my writing to get a better sense of my likes, I have a recs page of Doctor Who fic: The Cloister Bell; and most of my DW fic is archived here at whofic.com.
And most of all - thank you so much for writing for me! I truly, truly appreciate it. I am really quite over the moon with the idea that someone could match up on any of these requests. You obviously already rock the universe, yo!
