A week ago Sunday, I went to visit
jenicomprispas at her new place in Fullerton. It would’ve been great if we’d had more opportunity to chat. Unfortunately our time was shared with the lascivious
aingealolileain, so the plot to seduce my best friend was foiled with Hugh Jackman, white zinfandel, and mint-chocolate frozen yogurt. Damn hussy. We so need to do that more often.
Last Tuesday,
mutarada stopped by with his adorable sister, who just graduated high school, and her equally cute best friend. The four of us and Kristine hit up the local Chinese restaurant for dinner. Fun evening. Now, after all that, I’d anticipated the Fourth of July to be low-key, free of students, noise, and fattening food. My plans were to spend the evening in with my roommate and a couple friends. The past six years haven’t made me especially proud of my country, so I wasn’t in the mood to celebrate. And fireworks are only fun if you’re under 10 or have a date. But it turned out to be the best Fourth I’ve had in a long time. I caught Ratatouille in the morning with Mike, which turned out to be really cute. We had lunch and then I got home just in time to prepare for
azarsuerte’s arrival. There were plans to catch a fireworks display with her friend Galen, but between Kristine’s migraine and my qualms in returning to the City Walk, we kept it to dinner and Dr. Who. At least the restaurants were empty that evening. It was Argentinian for us and we made it back home before dark.I’m surprised I haven’t put on 20 pounds with all the eating out this week.
Saturday was another all-day affair. We ended up having two reasons to celebrate. Melissa’s birthday was the first, but she just landed her first teaching job on Friday, so we drank to both. Spent all day in the pool. I didn’t get any color to show for it, lobster or otherwise. When you’re as pasty as I am, the only weapon you can afford to wield against Mother Nature is SPF 50. Re-applied as needed. The pool festivities ended as the sun went down and we sat down for part of a Harry Potter movie marathon. Didn’t go as intended. We made it through one of the films (the third) and then decided we’d had enough of little boy wizards. By then, it was nearly midnight, waaaaay past my grandmotherly bedtime, and I’d had enough socializing for one week.
Or so I thought. Yesterday was supposed to be Transformers day. I honestly didn’t think I could handle any more geeking out or eating out…enough was enough. But fortunately for me, it was Kristine who flaked…for once! She had an interview and wanted to spend the afternoon prepping for it. I was more than happy to oblige. The only date I still had on my calendar was one with the gym, which was needed just as badly as the social break. My muscles are still talking about it today.
So that was my week. Haven’t even gotten to the work part, or the school part, but that’s all that needs to be known for now.
Teaching update later.
